Although Zen is not exactly my confession, I am very close to the idea of calm contemplation and searching for the meaning of things. When I was very young, I tried to keep up with Julius Caesar, doing three things at once and thinking that this was right. Gradually, as I grew older, I began to suspect that I really cannot explain the cause-and-effect of things around us with the plain logic as we commonly teach in schools. The further I go, the more I feel that many answers simply do not exist or they do not provide a single non-trivial solution.
If you look closely, the world around you is full of the inexplicable. And this is wonderful, for "blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of God." All you need to do is stop trying to conquer the universe and listen.
